Mayor Norman Scott charged with assault in connection with election day incident.
Spanish Town Mayor Norman Scott has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious destruction of property.
This follows an incident at a polling station in St Elizabeth on election day September 03.
Reports from the Black River Police are that at about midday , 66 year old Scott who was contesting the South East St Elizabeth seat for the People’s National Party , PNP , visited the polling station and stayed a little longer than the allotted time.
Police say an agent’s attempt to inform him that his allotted time at the facility was up , resulted in a commotion.
It’s reported that another agent intervened to quell the uproar and was allegedly struck to the face by Scott, before his security detail removed him from the location.
Following the incident, a report was made to the police and an investigation launched into the matter.
Summons for the offences were formally served on the Mayor today .
He is scheduled to appear in the Santa Cruz Parish Court on Monday, October 13.
