Bull Savannah Primary and Infant School plunged into mourning following death of female student yesterday

The Bull Savannah Primary and Infant school in St. Elizabeth has been plunged into mourning, following the death of a student at the institution yesterday.

The grade 6 pupil has been identified as 12-year-old Jada Nelson.

School Principal Colin Cameron told IRIE FM News that Jada collapsed right after the morning devotion.

He said Jada who had been enrolled at the school from the infant grade was hard working, pleasant and loving.

Mr. Cameron said classes were dismissed early yesterday, due to the incident.

He noted that representatives from the Education Ministry are to meet with Jada’s family today.

In the meantime, the Education Ministry said grief counselling will continue to be offered to staff and students of the school, today.

A team from the ministry’s regional team, and guidance and counselling unit also visited the school yesterday, to provide immediate support to students, staff and parents.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Kasan Troupe, while extending condolences, assured that the ministry stands with them during this difficult time.

Dr. Troupe said the ministry will provide counselling support and all necessary assistance to the school.
