Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party Dr. Andrew Holness has opined that the country dodged a bullet when the Peoples National Party lost Wednesday’s general election.

Based on the count results by the Electoral Office, the JLP got 35 constituencies, over the PNP’s 28.

The decision of the voters granted the JLP its third consecutive term in office.

The party had campaigned on its performance and achievements in the previous term, with a pledge to continue on the growth and prosperity path in the third term.

Dr. Holness claimed that if the PNP had won the election, the gains made by the JLP administration over the past few years would have been eroded.

He cited as an example the uprooting of good economic management.

He pointed out that the JLP government fought hard to build an economy that is not going to fund development on debt, it is instead, funded by expanding the tax base.

Dr. Holness claimed that if the PNP had formed the new government it would have implemented policies and programmes to redistribute wealth.
