The People’s National Party (PNP) says the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP’s) plan to increase the minimum wage from $16,000 to $32,000 over the next few years mirrors its proposed increase in the income tax threshold to $3.5 million.

Since the PNP announced its plan to raise the threshold, the JLP has criticised it, noting that it does not make sense.

JLP Leader and Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness said Jamaicans would pay for such an increase.

However, PNP’s Campaign Spokesperson Raymond Pryce claims that the proposed minimum wage increase announced by Dr. Holness is within the same range as the PNP’s plan to increase the income tax threshold.
