“The minimum wage should never be politicised” – PNP reacts to JLP’s promise to increase minimum wage from $16k-$32k
“The minimum wage should never be politicised”.
That remark was made by People’s National Party Campaign Spokesperson, Cleveland Tomlinson, during a press conference this morning.
Mr. Tomlinson was reacting to the Jamaica Labour Party’s recent promise that it would raise the minimum wage from $16,000 to $32,000 over the next few years if the JLP is returned to power.
Speaking at a mass meeting last night, JLP Leader Dr. Andrew Holness noted that the minimum wage will first increase from $16,000 to $18,500 in the first budget.
However, Mr. Tomlinson said any minimum wage adjustment will require a balancing act.
He pledged that the PNP’s plan will be made a reality.
