Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Leader and Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness says it is his intention that public sector workers are guaranteed a wage increase without compromising the economy.

His comment follows recent wage talks between the Jamaica Teacher’s Association (JTA) and the Finance Ministry, which ended without a resolution.

On Friday JTA representatives walked out of the meeting with the Finance Ministry saying the ministry did not make a new wage offer.

The JTA also gave the ministry until midnight yesterday to make a better wage offer.

Speaking at a party meeting in St. Thomas on Saturday, Dr. Holness said he respects all public sector workers and wants them to get the best pay possible.

He cautioned against taking action that will be devastating in the future.

Addressing union concerns, Prime Minister Holness said every government including his, must negotiate with respect and that the talks be undertaken in a timely manner.

He also acknowledged that anomalies remain arising from the recent compensation review, noting that they will be resolved through negotiations.
