PNP pledges to cut food imports by 25% in 5 years if elected
The People’s National Party says it will cut food imports by 25% within five years, if it forms the next government.
The proposal was made at the party’s manifesto launch last evening.
With the general election set for September 3, the party outlined a number of initiatives that it is committed to implementing.
According to Spokesman on Agriculture, Dr. Dayton Campbell, in the last ten years, the food importation bill has increased significantly.
He said the next PNP government will invest heavily in local farmers.
Dr. Campbell further stated that an agriculture special economic zone will be established.
He said the production within the zone will be export-driven to lessen the imbalance between imports and exports.
