PM announces election for September 3, nomination day August 18
Jamaicans will head to the polls in just over three weeks.
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness announced last evening that the general election will be held on September 3.
He said next Monday, August 18 will be nomination day.
The Prime Minister was addressing thousands of Jamaica Labour Party supporters at a mass rally in Half-Way-Tree, St. Andrew.
He gave the date after months of campaigning by the two major political parties and following repeated calls from the opposition to set the election date.
In the meantime, by-elections for four local government divisions in the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation will also be held on September 3.
Dr. Holness and Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie commented on that matter.
Dr. Holness said his administration is the strongest, most active and most strategic government, having taken the country through a number of crises, including COVID and Hurricane Beryl among others.
He outlined several actions taken by the government, noting that the administration’s stewardship has to be reviewed by the people.
