Police High Command assures that shooting incident in Central Kingston Constituency being treated with the seriousness it deserves

The Police High Command has sought to assure that Investigators are treating a shooting incident in Kingston, relating to a Jamaica Labour Party Member of Parliament, with the seriousness it deserves.

Reports are that on Tuesday armed men opened gun fire in the direction of Member of Parliament for the Central Kingston Constituency, Donovan Williams and his campaign team.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Tower Street and South Camp Road, which falls within the Kingston Eastern Police Division.

In a statement, the High Command of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) notes that its aware of reports concerning a shooting incident.

The JCF says it views any report of gun violence with the utmost seriousness, particularly where it potentially threatens public safety or undermines the democratic process.

It says Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Branch are probing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The JCF says it maintains a zero-tolerance approach to violence in all its forms, including any act that may be politically motivated.

It notes that as the nation proceeds through what has so far been a peaceful election campaign, all citizens are being urged to refrain from any form of political violence and to play their part in ensuring that the election period remains free, fair and free from fear.

The High Command says as the investigation progresses, it is assuring members of the public that the probe will be conducted in a thorough, impartial, and professional manner.

Anyone with relevant information on the incident is being urged to come forward and support the process of justice.

The High Command said the safety and security of all Jamaicans remain its highest priority, and it will continue to act decisively to ensure that those who seek to disrupt peace and order are held accountable under the law.
