JCF Rank and file members reportedly restive over delays in wage talks

Rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force are reportedly restive, in addition to being incensed at what has been deemed as silence and disrespect by the Finance Ministry.

This is due to the Finance Ministry’s non-response to requests for wage meetings.

The Jamaica Police Federation is demanding a response from Portfolio Minister Fayval Williams.

The Federation notes that there has been an inordinate delay to the start of the salary and benefits negotiation for the contract period 2025-2027.

Chairman Sergeant Arleen McBean points out, that two letters requesting an urgent meeting were sent to the Finance Minister last month, and a response stated that Ms. Williams was travelling overseas but offered no possible meeting date.

The Chairman notes that this action by the Minister and her team has eroded confidence.

She says while the country is touting a significant reduction in major crimes, the rank-and-file members are treated with disdain by the Finance Ministry, which is deemed a slap in the face of the hardworking men and women.

Sergeant McBean stresses that while the Finance Ministry remains silent, the rank-and-file members will not remain silent, as their livelihood is at stake.

She says the Federation wants a speedy resolution to this vexed issue, as members demand a response to the federation’s request of the Minister.
