Culture Minister Olivia Grange has called for national unity on matters relating to Jamaica’s heritage.
She made the appeal at the Seville Emancipation Jubilee at Seville Heritage Park in St. Ann, last Thursday.
The event was attended by several officials, including Opposition Spokesperson on Culture and Creative Industries Dr. Deborah Hickling Gordon.
While not making specific reference, Ms. Grange’s comments follow calls from Dr. Hickling Gordon for the minister to give full disclosure of independence celebration costs.
Dr. Hickling Gordon had expressed concern about Ms. Grange’s announcements regarding the hosting of galas in light of 2025 being an election year.
Ms. Grange emphasis ed that political divisions have no place in the preservation of Jamaica’s cultural identity.
She called for collaboration over competition, noting that building the nation requires collective effort.
