Jamaica to import more school buses from the United States
Eight more school buses were expected to be shipped from the United States to Jamaica, yesterday.
The shipment is among several being made as the government rolls out its Rural School Bus Programme.
52 school buses have already been handed over to the state-run Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC).
The government has promised 110 buses for the initiative.
In providing an update during a press conference on Thursday, Transport Minister Daryl Vaz said another 25 school buses are scheduled for shipment on August 8.
He said the 60 buses being rolled out in September will cover 53 routes across Jamaica.
The Transport Minister added that of the 52 buses already in the JUTC’s possession, 23 of them have been retrofitted.
