St. Vincent offers citizenship to surviving members of the West Indies winning World Cup cricket team
The Parliament of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has passed a bill offering citizenship to the surviving members of the West Indies cricket team, who won the Inaugural ICC -One Day International World Cup in England back in 1975.
The legislation now allows the 12 surviving members of the legendary team to apply for Vincentian Citizenship without meeting the usual requirements, such as residency or economic contribution.
Clive Lloyd captained the team that defeated Australia in the final.
The team also included: Sir Viv Richards, Deryck Muray, Bernard Julien, Andy Roberts, Gordon Greenidge, Lance Gibbs who is 90 year old , Rohan Khnai who is 89 among others.
Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves presented the bill, saying it aims to formally recognize the team’s significant contribution to cricket and Caribbean Culture and creates a special pathway for the cricket legends.
