NRSC stresses importance of wearing seat belts, following double fatal crash

Following a crash that claimed the lives of a man and his three-year-old daughter in Clarendon yesterday, Vice-Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones, is stressing the importance of wearing seat belts.

Dead are Lushana Bennett and her father, 29-year-old businessman Luchion Bennett both of Hatfield District in Westmoreland, and New York in the United States.

The crash which occurred along the PJ Patterson Highway near May Pen, at about 2pm, left another person injured.

According to Dr. Jones, none of the three occupants were wearing seat belts, causing them to be ejected during the crash.

He says the lives of many road users, can be saved if they wear the necessary safety gear.

So far this year, 219 people have died on the nation’s roads.
