STATIN records decline in unemployment rate from 4.2 to 3.3%
The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) has recorded a decline in the unemployment rate, from 4.2% in April 2024 to 3.3% in April 2025.
In its statement on the key indicators from the April 2025 second-quarter Labour Force Survey, STATIN pointed out that the number of unemployed persons declined by 12,800.
The total number of unemployed individuals was 50,000, which is a 20.4% decrease when compared to April 2024.
Additionally, 11,300 fewer persons were outside the labour force compared to the similar quarter of 2024.
STATIN said there were 24,200 more employed persons in April 2025 compared to April 2024.
It said the largest increase in employment was observed in the ‘Services and Sales Worker’ occupational group.
By industry, the largest gains occurred in ‘Public Administration and Defence; Compulsory Social Security’.
In April 2025, the labour force comprised 1,494,400 individuals.
