Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton renews call for review of retirement age law

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton has renewed the call for legislation relating to retirement age to be reviewed.
Currently the retirement age in the public sector is 65 years.
Speaking at the recent World Population Day event in Kingston, Dr. Tufton said Jamaica faces the risk of a shrinking population potentially leading to a smaller labour force which could hinder economic growth.
He said there needs to be an amendment to the law to allow people over 65 years to continue working, if they are capable.
Dr. Tufton noted that it would be good to have some retired nurses return to service in the health sector, as they still have a lot to offer.
