The film ‘Someone Loves You’ starring Nadine Sutherland won “best short film” at the Essence Film Festival in New Orleans on Sunday night.

The film, which is 24 minutes in length captures the story following the estranged members of a Jamaican family in New York city, as they cope with the slowly declining health of their beloved matriarch, once famous artist.

Following the win, an excited Nadine Sutherland said she was overjoyed especially given that this was her acting debut.

Meanwhile Film Director Amanda Mandii said it means so much to have the story and the community behind it recognized in this manner.

Someone Loves You was directed by both Mandii and Victoria Perry.
