Transport Minister Daryl Vaz to provide an update on Rural School Bus Programme tomorrow

Transport Minister, Daryl Vaz is to provide an update on the Rural School Bus Programme tomorrow.

He has called a press conference for 11 AM.

The Bus System has sparked debate between the Government and Opposition and has been heavily criticised by the PNP during its campaigning.

Education Minister, Dr Dana Morris Dixon issued a statement yesterday saying the Government will not be distracted from implementing the Rural School Bus System in September.

110 vehicles are being procured to provide transportation for students in rural Jamaica.

Some of the buses have already arrived.

Dr Morris Dixon described the Opposition’s attacks on the rural school bus system as baseless, unfortunate and unhelpful.

She said she is particularly disappointed by recent remarks from the Opposition Leader Mark Golding and Spokesman on National Security Peter Bunting adding that statements by the latter should be withdrawn.

Dr. Morris Dixon emphasised that the buses are purpose-built for student transport and are held to internationally recognized safety standards.
