The Government says it is open to exploring expressions of interest from all parties which may be desirous of acquiring the new electricity licence, including the current licensees.
This morning, Energy Minister Daryl Vaz announced that he notified the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) that the Government will not be moving forward with the current terms of the existing licence, which expires on July 8, 2027.
He explained that the formal notice given to the power company will allow the Government 24 months to implement holistic change.
Mr. Vaz indicated that potential investors must note that the terms of the new arrangement should be consistent with the Government’s objective of securing more affordable electricity for Jamaicans.
