Demarai Gray set for Birmingham City return

Reggae Boy Demarai Gray is on the verge of a homecoming, with the 28-year-old winger set to rejoin Birmingham City—the club where his professional journey began—after agreeing terms for a free transfer from Saudi side Al Ettifaq.

Gray, who began his medical on Sunday, is expected to complete the final formalities and sign with the Blues, marking a return to English football after a two-year spell abroad. As part of the deal, Al Ettifaq will retain a 20% sell-on clause.

The move is a poignant one for Gray, who came through Birmingham’s youth system, having joined the academy in 2006. He made his senior debut at just 17 years old in October 2013, quickly establishing himself as a bright talent with pace and flair.

Before moving on in January 2016, Gray made 78 appearances and scored 8 goals for the Blues. His performances earned him a £3.7 million move to Leicester City, where he etched his name into Premier League history. Just four months after signing, he became part of the legendary Leicester squad that stunned the footballing world by winning the 2015–16 Premier League title, defying 5000/1 odds.

Gray’s return comes at a pivotal time for Birmingham City, who are aiming to rebuild and push forward after recent challenges.
