PM Holness says government has taken action to cushion effect of high cost of living
Prime Minister Andrew Holness has acknowledged what he called the great concern about the cost of living, which he said is a pain point of the economy.
He noted that after the COVID 19 pandemic, the global spike in inflation caused a rise in the cost of living in Jamaica .
The Prime Minister said the government has taken action to cushion the effects of the high cost of living .
He said one such move is helping Jamaicans with electricity, by reducing the GCT on electricity, giving up that tax thereby putting back money in people’s pockets.
He highlighted the reverse tax credit, the upcoming Solidarity Programme and the recent water amnesty.
Mr. Holness said there will be a water amnesty for small businesses.
