Education Ministry says there has been an improvement in the Grade 6 results for this year’s PEP Exams
There has been an improvement in the Grade 6 results for the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) exams this year.
Education Minister, Dr. Dana Morris Dixon revealed this morning that the results are better than last year’s.
The results were released to schools at 11:00 A.M., and parents will have access to the portal at 1:00 P.M.
Under PEP, the children are tested between Grades 4 and 6.
The Education Minister said the Mathematics results show that 56% of the students are proficient in that subject.
She said this is progress and the ministry will intensify its efforts to improve the results.
For Language Arts, the results show that 67% of students are proficient.
For Social Studies, 71.6% were proficient or highly proficient and in Science, 69.9%.
33,462 students registered for PEP 2025, with more boys sitting the exams.
There were some absentees.
Meantime, Dr. Morris Dixon said, this year’s cohort is a special group, as the COVID 19 pandemic had a big impact on them at the beginning of their primary school education .
She said many of the then Grade 1 students did not have access to devices and spent nearly two years away from face to face learning.
The Education Minister stated that they were at a disadvantage, as they also had no peer interaction.
Meantime, 89.5 % of the students are going to a school of their choice.
The students had seven options, their preferred 5 and the other two schools are in proximity to where they live.
The Education Minister also announced that in the past, the top ten students selected three particular schools.
This year the top PEP students will be attending six different schools.
She was speaking at a press conference on the PEP results being released today.
