Windies Women to launch 2026 World Cup campaign against defending champs New Zealand
The West Indies Women’s team will begin their quest for a second ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title with a high-stakes clash against defending champions New Zealand in their opening match of the 2026 tournament. Set to take place at the Hampshire Bowl on June 13, the encounter promises fireworks as the Caribbean side takes on one of the tournament favorites.
The full fixture list, unveiled today by the ICC, reveals that the West Indies Women have been drawn into a competitive Group 2 alongside hosts England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and two additional teams advancing from the ICC Qualifier.
Following their opener, the West Indies will head north to Headingley on June 18 to face Qualifier 2, before moving west to the Bristol County Ground on June 21 for a crucial showdown against Sri Lanka. The group stage culminates with a blockbuster clash against England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on June 24 — a potential decider for a place in the semi-finals.
Group 1 of the tournament features a competitive line-up of global powerhouses, including multiple-time champions Australia, 2024 finalists South Africa, India, Pakistan, and two teams from the Global Qualifier.
The 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup gets underway on June 12 when hosts England take on Sri Lanka at Edgbaston, marking the start of 24 days of elite cricket action. A total of 33 matches will be played across seven of England’s most historic venues: Edgbaston, Hampshire Bowl, Headingley, Old Trafford, The Oval, Bristol County Ground, and Lord’s.
Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for June 30 and July 2 at The Oval. The winners will battle for global glory in the grand finale at Lord’s on July 5.
