Spragga Benz calls cashless society a “soul trap” like COVID vaccine
Spragga Benz is warning the public about what he believes is a dangerous push toward a cashless society, likening it to the COVID-19 vaccine—calling both a “soul trap.”
On Instagram, the veteran Dancehall artist, known for speaking his truth, shared a series of video clips—one claiming to reveal the truth about the vaccine and others showing how people were allegedly pressured into getting vaccinated.
But it was his caption that drew attention. He tagged fellow entertainer Tanya Stephens, reminding his followers of the backlash they both faced for warning people about the vaccine. He ended with the message:
“Memba good enuh, because this digital, cashless society they are embellishing now is another soul trap.”
Tanya Stephens reacted with four laughing emojis in response.
Reports suggest that the pandemic period in 2020 marked a turning point in Jamaica’s payment landscape. Social distancing measures and lockdowns led to a sharp rise in digital transactions, accelerating the shift away from physical banking.
In 2023, the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) reported that the country is steadily moving closer to becoming a cashless society.
