Buju, Beres, Marion Hall clap back after promoter criticizes Reggae icons’ fees
Buju Banton and Minister Marion Hall, formerly known as Lady Saw, are clapping back after a European promoter called out both Buju and Beres Hammond over their performance fees.
Speaking on the Yaadman Podcast, Julian Francisco Garcia Mancebo claimed that the decline of Reggae music in Europe is partly due to top-tier Jamaican artists refusing to adapt to the touring realities of the region. In making his case, he specifically named Buju and Beres.
Seemingly unbothered, Beres Hammond took to Instagram, sharing a video of a packed arena with screaming fans as he walked on stage. His caption read:
“My family! Tour dates are coming soon! I can’t wait to see all of you this summer!”
Meanwhile, Buju Banton made his stance clear in the comment section of the clip shared by World Music Views, writing:
“No more exploitation boss.”
Minister Marion Hall also pushed back, asking:
“What about Travis and all the American artists, all the pop and rock stars? How much do they charge, and how many people travel with them?”
This renewed debate over performance fees comes shortly after Jamaican-born Trinidadian promoter Odane Anderson of Jacho Entertainment—organizers of the failed One Caribbean Music Festival—revealed that Vybz Kartel’s booking fee was a staggering 1.35 million US dollars.
