Nine-year-old Kelsey Ferrigon who was sexually assaulted and murdered in Spanish Town, St. Catherine last month will be laid to rest today. 

Her funeral, which will be held at the Spanish Town Seventh Day Adventist Church begins at noon. 

On May 9, Kelsey’s partially naked body was discovered upside down inside a barrel at her home on Job Lane in Spanish Town. 

The main suspect, 30-year-old Giovanni Ellis also known as “Coolie Man,” was shot and killed during a confrontation with lawmen in Sandy Bay Clarendon soon after. 

Kelsey’s death has prompted numerous calls for Jamaicans to collaborate in protecting children. 

It also re-ignited calls for the sex offenders’ registry to be made public. 

In response, Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness said the legislation would be reviewed.
