Jamaica generates 12.5% of electricity from renewable sources, eyes 33% by 2028

Jamaica is now generating 12.5% of its electricity from renewable sources, with plans of increasing to 33% by 2028.

That’s the progress update given by Energy Minister Darl Vaz at the FosRich Company’s Energy Expo in Kingston yesterday.

Vaz’s Technical Assistant, Donniaree Muirhead, who delivered the address on his behalf, said Jamaica continues to make strides in meeting its target of generating 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

This commitment is an increase from the 30% target, which the Government announced in April 2017.

She also noted that the Government’s energy strategy prioritises infrastructure improvements.
