Prime Minister Holness wants Jamaica to embrace technology including AI to help with rapid assessments after disasters
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness wants Jamaica to embrace technology, including artificial intelligence (AI) to help with rapid assessments after disasters.
He says these tools must be integrated into the country’s disaster response to speed up the process.
Dr. Holness, who chairs the National Disaster Risk Management Council, underscores that technology can bolster efforts to get help to those in need quickly.
Meanwhile, he says there is a need to establish a body of assessors who can be mobilised quickly after disasters.
This will improve Jamaica’s humanitarian and relief response.
Dr. Holness highlights past challenges, noting that there were not enough social workers to undertake assessments.
The 2025 hurricane season began on June 1 and runs until November 30.
It is predicted that it will be a very active season.
