England dominate as West Indies Women suffer heavy defeat in second ODI at Grace Road

West Indies Women endured a tough outing in the second One Day International against England at Grace Road, Leicester, succumbing to a comprehensive 143-run defeat. Despite a promising debut from Realeanna Grimmond, the Windies were unable to chase down England’s imposing total of 367.

Stepping in for the injured captain Hayley Mathews, Grimmond showed great promise with a confident knock of 53 runs off 72 balls, featuring 4 fours and 2 sixes. However, her efforts were overshadowed as the Windies’ batting lineup faltered under pressure, being bowled out for 223 in 45.4 overs.

Jannillea Glasgow supported with 44, while Cherry-Ann Fraser contributed 24 and former captain Stafanie Taylor added 20. Zaida James (19), Jahzara Claxton (18), and Karishma Ramharack (15 not out) also chipped in but it was not enough to stem the tide. The English bowling attack, led by Alice Capsey’s impressive 3 for 41, alongside Linsey Smith (2 for 27) and Lauren Filer (2 for 44), proved too strong for the visitors.

Earlier, England laid down a mammoth target thanks to stellar performances from their openers Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont. Jones was in sublime form, smashing 129 off just 99 balls, laced with 20 boundaries. Beaumont supported with a composed 106 from 109 deliveries, including 12 fours and a six, as the duo forged a commanding opening partnership of 202.

Emma Lamb (55) and Sophia Dunkley (31) provided valuable contributions to push England to a formidable 366 for 6 in their 50 overs. For the Windies, Aaliyah Alleyne and Karishma Ramharack each took two wickets in a losing cause.

This result extends England’s lead in the series to 2-0 after their 108-run victory in the opener at the County Ground, Derby, on May 30.
