Dennis Chung says first day as FID’s Chief Technical Director went well, ready to take on day two
Despite calls for Dennis Chung to recuse himself as the Chief Technical Director of the Financial Investigations Division, the new appointee is reporting that his first day in the post went well.
Mr. Chung, whose position went into effect yesterday, also told IRIE FM News that he is ready to take on day two.
Mr. Chung’s appointment has been marred by controversy and opposition from the People’s National Party (PNP).
Yesterday, hundreds of PNP members and supporters gathered near the Finance Ministry at Heroes Circle, in Downtown, Kingston, calling for Mr. Chung’s appointment to be revoked.
Despite clarifications from the ruling Jamaica Labour Party that the Public Service Commission oversaw his appointment, the PNP has accused the Government of choosing Mr. Chung for its benefit.
The PNP has maintained that Mr. Chung’s appointment is a conflict of interest as he has made public pronouncements on cases which are being investigated by the Division, including one relating to the statutory declarations of Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness.
Yesterday, the PNP said it has made a formal complaint to the Office of the Political Ombudsman about alleged breaches of the political code of conduct by Dr. Holness.
