St James has recorded only one murder for the month of May.
The division is also seeing a 67 percent decline in murders since the start of the year, with 22 murders up to June 1.
This compares to 68 for the same period last year.
The latest gun related murder occurred on April 27, while the murder in May was a domestic incident with the use of a knife.
Minister of National Security, Dr. Horace Chang who spoke at a JLP conference in St. James yesterday said there is a 44 per cent reduction in murder for the month of May in comparison to the same period last year.
He attributed the reduction in murders to the government’s investment in the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
