Two hundred and thirty-three firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition have been seized by Jamaica Customs and the security forces.

National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang confirmed the massive gun and ammunition seizure at today’s Post Cabinet press briefing.

He stated that so many guns designed to create mayhem were destined for the streets.

Dr. Chang said the shipment comprised rifles and pistols.

The shipment reportedly originated in the United States.

He said the ammunition is still being counted and had surpassed 40,000 rounds.

The National Security Minister pledged that those responsible will be tracked down.

He said since the start of the year 695 firearms have been taken off the streets.

This represents 80% of firearms seized in 2024 which saw the highest number of gun seizures in many years.

895 guns were seized in 2024.
