PM Holness warns deportees against destabilizing Jamaica and urges them to return to rebuild

Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson Smith says monitoring and detention measures are in place and will be implemented where necessary for Jamaicans who have been deported.

The country welcomed 105 Jamaicans repatriated from the United States today.

Mrs. Johnson-Smith reiterates that the United States has close to 4000 Jamaicans in their records with final orders for deportation.

However they are not being returned now.

She explains that only 2500 have been confirmed for removal from the United States and that this will be done over two years.

She spoke to the concerns of Jamaicans about those being returned who have serious criminal backgrounds.

National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang said the monitoring will include electronic tagging.

The ministers were speaking at a Post Cabinet press briefing this afternoon.
