Jamaica recording 10 murders per 100,000 citizens— Chang

National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang said Jamaica is currently recording 10 murders per 100,000 citizens.

He made the statement at the Jamaica Police Federation’s 82nd Annual Joint Central Conference today, noting that this is coming from a high of over 60 murders, per 100,000 citizens.

As at May 24 Jamaica recorded 269 murders, this is 199 fewer than the 468 homicides recorded in the same period last year.

Dr. Chang said if Jamaica continues on this path, it will have one of the lowest homicide rates within the region.

While acknowledging the success, he said the job is not complete as the process to transformation is ongoing.

The minister again committed to providing the resources the police force needs to ensure transformation.
