The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is calling on the office of the Political Ombudsman to launch an investigation to determine if People’s National Party, (PNP) caretaker for South East St. Catherine, Dr. Alfred Dawes breached the Political Code of Conduct.

The call comes after a video of Dr. Dawes accompanied by violent lyrics was posted to his Instagram account on May 21, 2025.

The video captioned “POV you tracked down who owns the drill company, fraid? Me? Release the serial number now”, shows Dr. Dawes with an orange hat on his head, as he walked towards the JLP headquarters on Belmont Road in Kingston 5.

Dr. Dawes, the Opposition Spokesman on Health, has been calling for answers regarding the acquisition of a $31 million neurosurgical drill for the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

The company involved in the acquisition stated that Dr. Dawes’ claims regarding the drill are false. However, Dr. Dawes is calling for receipts to be provided.

The JLP has taken issue with the video Dr. Dawes posted last week, and has written to the office of the political ombudsman requesting that it be investigated.

In the letter sent to the Ombudsman’s office, yesterday May 25, 2025 attorney-at-law and JLP Deputy General Secretary Senator Charles Sinclair expressed concern about Dr. Dawes’ conduct.

According to Senator Sinclair the video contained gun lyrics from a song which purports to promote criminality and gangsterism.

Senator Sinclair said by virtue of advancing on the JLP headquarters and the subsequent social media post, Dr. Dawes has breached section 3A. and B. of the Political Code of Conduct.

This section reportedly states that “nothing should be done or encouraged which can reasonably be expected to lead to volatile confrontation between opposing factions” and “every effort should be made to avoid contact which is likely to be provocative or which will increase tension between opposing political factions”.

Senator Sinclair is also calling for the office to investigate whether Dr. Dawes breached section 1A. of the Political Code of Conduct which reportedly says no person should engage in, adopt or otherwise encourage, any form of violence or intimidation in their political activities and section 1C. which says no threats of violence whatsoever, whether expressed or implied, should be made against any group of persons.
