Opposition Spokesman on Transport, Mikael Phillips is calling on the Auditor General to launch a probe into the money spent by the government to stage several ribbon-cutting events.

Speaking at the People’s National Party’s Maroon Town Division Conference in St. James last night, Mr. Phillips referred to the recent ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Morant Bay Urban Centre in St. Thomas on May 15.

According to Mr. Phillips, the Prime Minister hosted the ceremony despite the facility not being completed or ready for opening.

During the Morant Bay ribbon-cutting ceremony, Chairman of the Factories Corporation of Jamaica, Lyttleton Shirley said the facility was ready for occupancy.

He also noted that clients were given a three-month build-out period.

Mr. Shirley spoke at the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Morant Bay Urban Centre on May 15.

The centre, which was once home to the old Goodyear factory, promises ease of access to government services, commercial offerings, as well as job creation and economic stimulation.
