Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard scores historic 9000th goal in Suncorp Super Netball League
Sunshine Girls star shooter Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard achieved a historic milestone in the Suncorp Super Netball League, becoming the first player ever to surpass 9,000 national league goals.
Entering Round 7 with 8,988 goals to her name, Fowler-Nembhard cemented her place in the record books when she scored her 9,000th goal early in the match against the Giants Netball franchise at Sydney’s Ken Rosewall Arena. She finished the game with a commanding 63 goals from 66 attempts, leading all scorers and powering the Perth-based Fever to a clinical 75-66 victory—extending their unbeaten streak to five consecutive wins.
Fowler-Nembhard’s impact went beyond her shooting accuracy; she also contributed 2 rebounds and 2 goal assists, showcasing her all-around game.
Joining her on the court was fellow Jamaican international, goal-attack Shanice Beckford, who made her mark with 2 goals from 4 shots, alongside an impressive 11 goal assists and 13 feeds.

The Fever started the match with a burst of energy, quickly scoring the first four goals and holding an eight-goal lead at the end of the first quarter. The Giants rallied in the second quarter, taking a 40-36 lead by halftime. The third quarter saw an intense back-and-forth battle with the teams exchanging goals until the home side finally leveled the score. The final quarter saw the Fever hold their nerve and pull ahead to secure the win.
With this result, the Fever move into second place on the ladder with 20 points from 7 games, trailing the undefeated league leaders, the NSW Swifts, by 8 points. The Swifts themselves posted a solid 70-62 win over the Sunshine Coast Lightning.
The Fever will now return home to the RAC Arena to face the Queensland Firebirds in Round 8 on Sunday, June 1 at 2pm, promising another exciting clash.
Round 7 action continues this Sunday as well, with Jamaican player Shimona Jok set to suit up for the Melbourne Mavericks against two-time defending champions Adelaide Thunderbirds, who feature Sunshine Girls teammates Kadie-Ann Dehaney and Romelda Aiken-George.
