Joe Higgs Legacy Tribute Returns to Celebrate Reggae Icon’s 85th Birthday at the Bob Marley Museum
The Joe Higgs Foundation is set to reignite the spirit of roots reggae with the highly anticipated return of the Joe Higgs Legacy Tribute, happening Tuesday, June 3, at the Bob Marley Museum.
This year’s staging carries special significance as it marks what would have been the 85th birthday of Joe Higgs affectionately known as the Father of Reggae. A pioneering force in Jamaican music, Higgs not only shaped the sound of the genre but mentored some of its most legendary voices, including Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer.
In a release shared with IRIE FM, organizers emphasized the full-circle moment of hosting the event at 56 Hope Road a place Higgs once called home and where his musical teachings helped birth a global movement.
The tribute is expected to be a powerful evening of live music, rich storytelling, and celebration of Higgs’ indelible impact. Backed by the dynamic Binghistra Movement, under the direction of stalwart Earl “Chinna” Smith, the lineup will feature both local and international performers, all honoring Higgs through music and memories.
Fans around the world can also tune in, as the event will be live-streamed at www.joehiggsreggae.com. Showtime is 7 PM, and organizers promise a night steeped in reggae history, highlighted by rare archival footage and powerful tributes that capture the legacy of one of Jamaica’s true musical prophets.
