West Indies Women gear up for T20 series opener against England

The West Indies Women’s Cricket Team is ready to kick off their three-match T20 International series against England with the first match tomorrow at the Spitfire Ground in Canterbury. The match is set to bowl off at 12:30 PM Jamaica time.

Ahead of the series opener, the Windies Women have been in fine form, having secured a dominant 80-run victory over the England Cricket Board Development Eleven in their warm-up game on Sunday. The Windies posted an imposing total of 175 for 4, with a standout performance from the explosive Qiana Joseph. Joseph blasted a whirlwind 62 runs from just 35 balls, smashing 10 fours and 2 sixes in a brilliant display of power-hitting.

The squad, captained by the dynamic Hayley Matthews, is packed with talent and experience. Vice-captain Shemaine Campbelle, alongside other key players such as Ashmini Munisar, Afy Fletcher, and the young all-rounder Realeanna Grimbond, make the Windies a formidable unit. Kittitian fast bowler Jahzara Claxton is also expected to play a crucial role in the team’s bowling attack.

Completing the line-up are Aaliyah Alleyne, Cherry Ann Fraser, Shabika Gajnabi, Jannillea Glasgow, Zaida James, Qiana Joseph, Mandy Mangru, and Karishma Ramharack.

The second and third T20 games in the series will be played on May 23 and May 26, respectively. After the T20 series, the Windies will shift their focus to three One-Day Internationals, scheduled for May 30, June 4, and June 7.
