Hundreds of nurses protest for an end to violence against women and girls
Hundreds of the nation’s nurses were joined by other health care workers and members of the public today as they called for an end to violence against women and girls.
The peaceful protests follow the physical assault of a nurse in a road rage incident in Mount Friendship, St. Andrew last Tuesday.
The police have laid several charges against 65-year-old Robert Bell, the businessman captured on video in the assault of the health care worker.
Nurses upset about the attack, gathered in sections of Kingston and St. Andrew, Portland, Clarendon, St. Mary, St. Ann, St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, St. Catherine and St. James, to make their call.
President of the Nurses Association of Jamaica Dawn Marie Richards told IRIE FM News that the protests were well supported.
Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton, who also participated in the peaceful protest, said there was a great show of unity.
