Health Minister says nurse physically assaulted in road rage incident will receive counselling in addition to medical treatment
The female nurse who was physically assaulted during what is being referred to as a road rage incident last Tuesday will be getting counselling, in addition to her medical treatment.
Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton made the declaration during a protest staged by nurses and several members of the public at the University Hospital of the West Indies this morning.
The healthcare workers are calling for justice after a video of the incident shows the nurse being beaten, wrestled to the ground and stomped on by a man armed with what appeared to be a gun.
65-year-old businessman Robert Bell of St. Andrew is facing five charges in relation to the incident.
Addressing the scores of protesters, Dr. Tufton said while he understands the national outrage, the primary focus is to get the nurse back to normal health.
Noting that he has met with the nurse and her immediate family, Dr. Tufton pledged that support at all levels will be provided.
