Human skeletal remains found at St. Catherine beach believed to be that of missing UTECH student
Police say the human skeletal remains discovered in St. Catherine yesterday are believed to be that of missing University of Technology student Anisa Dilworth.
Ms Dilworth was reported missing on Wednesday, May 7.
Police say the body was discovered at a beach in Portmore, St. Catherine.
In a post on its Instagram page lawmen say Ms Dilworth was last seen on Tuesday, May 6, and a missing person report was filed at the Papine Police Station the following day.
The police, along with Specialized Units within the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), including the Communications Forensics and Cybercrime Division, initiated an investigation into her disappearance.
About 11:30 a.m. yesterday, the police were alerted to the discovery of skeletal remains at a beach in Portmore and went to investigate.
It said while formal identification is pending forensic analysis, investigators believe the remains belong to Ms. Dilworth based on evidence found at the scene.
The police say the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms. Dilworth’s disappearance and the discovery of the remains is ongoing.
Detectives are pursuing several leads.
The JCF is urging anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to contact the Criminal Investigations Branch at 876-929-9256, Crime Stop at 311, the National Intelligence Bureau at 811, or the nearest police station.
