Tia Clayton, Rasheed Broadbell & Shaneika Ricketts win gold at Doha Diamond League

Jamaica’s athletes brought their A-game to the Jetour/Doha Diamond League Meeting in Qatar, with standout performances across multiple disciplines.

Tia Clayton kicked off the night in spectacular fashion, securing her first Diamond League victory of the season in the women’s 100m. The Jamaican sprinter powered her way to a world-leading time of 10.92 seconds, marking a personal milestone. Clayton’s victory not only placed her on top of the podium but also completed a Jamaican 1-2 finish in the race, with her sibling, Tina Clayton, following closely behind with a strong 11.02 seconds—her fastest time since 2022.

The race was a thrilling blanket finish, with the legendary Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce finishing in 4th place with a season-best time of 11.05 seconds. The iconic Jamaican sprinter was narrowly edged out by Great Britain’s Amy Hunt, who clocked in at 11.03 seconds.

In the men’s 110m hurdles, Olympic bronze medalist Rasheed Broadbell continued his strong early-season form, running a season-best 13.14 seconds to take home the victory. The race saw a tight battle for the podium, with Broadbell holding off Jamal Britt, who finished second in 13.25 seconds. Spain’s Enrique Llopis, a strong finisher, ran a close 13.27 seconds for third.

Shaneika Ricketts continued to showcase her exceptional form, claiming gold in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 14.72 meters. The Olympic silver medalist’s performance was enough to beat the reigning Olympic champion, Thea Lafond of the Dominican Republic, who finished in second place.

In the men’s discus, Jamaica’s Frederick Dacres finished 7th with a throw of 64.81 meters. While Dacres’ performance fell short of the podium, it was still a solid effort in a competitive field. The event was won by Australia’s Matthew Denny, who threw a distance of 68.97 meters to take the gold.
