Amendments made to Transport Authority Act to remove power to seize motor vehicles operating contrary to road licence
Transport Authority Agents will soon no longer have the power to seize a motor vehicle if it is being operated contrary to the road licence.
Transport Minister Daryl Vaz gave the update during a virtual meeting of the Transport Operators, Development Sustainable Services, TODSS.
The matter has been of concern over the years, with many motorists, particularly public passenger vehicle operators, complaining about being victimised.
The taxi drivers have long called for legislation and regulations to be amended, citing unfairness with the system when their tool of trade is taken away.
Mr. Vaz said the amended Transport Authority Act was passed recently, and the power of seizure stipulation has been removed.
The Transport Minister added that another amendment is for the renaming of ‘bus stops’ to ‘P-P-V stops’.
