Public Passenger Vehicle operators have been asked to wait a bit longer, before the balance of the fare increase is granted.

In October 2023 government granted a 35 percent fare increase for public transport operators, which was to take place in two phases.

19 per cent came into effect on October 15, 2023.

However, the remaining 16 per cent which should have been in place from April 2024, has not taken effect.

Taxi drivers have been calling for the remaining 16 percent.

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz addressed the concerns during the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services, (TODSS), virtual meeting last evening.

Vaz explained that he met with the finance ministry on Tuesday and it was noted that inflation remains too high, so now is not the ideal time to grant the fare increase.
