School gate vendors will not be sidelined as Government seeks to implement National School Nutrition Policy – Education Minister
Education Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon has sought to assure that school gate vendors will not be sidelined, as the government seeks to implement the National School Nutrition Policy.
The five-year policy, approved by Cabinet in April, was tabled in the Senate on Friday.
It aims to ensure that children entering educational facilities are exposed to good nutrition and healthy lifestyles.
The policy will be implemented across public and private institutions, from the early childhood to secondary level as well as at special education institutions.
Dr. Morris Dixon notes that vendors at the school gates will be incorporated in the plan to provide healthier meals for children.
This includes training and the development of a framework to guide vending in and near educational institutions.
