UPDATE: Kingston Freeport sets new one-day record with over 900 containers processed on Thursday, hours after truckers went on strike
Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) says it processed over 930 container arrivals and deliveries on Thursday – a new record for single-day gate transactions.
The new record came one day after truckers, who operate at the port, withdrew their service over the slow pace of processing.
It also followed a meeting with the truckers, KFTL, the Jamaica Customs Agency and the Port Authority of Jamaica to discuss challenges and solutions.
Following the meeting, KFTL committed to implementing improvement measures and monitoring them to ensure effectiveness and feasibility.
In an update on those measures, KFTL said it reduced the average truck turnaround time by 26 minutes.
KFTL also noted that it is looking forward to further engagement with stakeholders, as it remains committed to enhancing service delivery.
Following Wednesday’s strike, Opposition Spokesperson on Trade, Investment and Global Logistics, Anthony Hylton, called for urgent action to resolve all operational challenges at the nation’s primary port.
He argued that repeated work stoppages will affect stakeholders’ confidence in considering Jamaica as a reliable logistics hub.
