Prime Minister says there was no attempt to harm or deceive teachers.
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has stressed that at no time was there any attempt to harm or deceive teachers.
This in response to concerns and comments about the controversial Jamaica Teaching Council (JTC) bill.
The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) and the Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) have noted that while they do not in principle object to the JTC, there are aspects of the recently passed bill that raise concern and despite pointing out those concerns the government has done little to resolve them.
Speaking today at a function on teachers’ day at Mico University College Dr. Holness noted that the legislation seeks to establish a robust institutional framework for accountability and standards within the teaching profession.
The Prime Minister said the government has committed to further dialogue on the JTC bill.
