Jamaica Women dominant in 62-run victory Over Barbados in T20 Blaze

Defending champions Jamaica stormed back to winning ways in the West Indies Women’s T20 Blaze with a commanding 62-run victory over Barbados at Arnos Vale, St. Vincent. The Jamaican women, led by a scintillating century from Chinelle Henry, made light work of their opponents to secure a one-sided victory and maintain their title hopes.

Chinelle Henry’s Stunning Century Powers Jamaica

Chinelle Henry put on a display of pure power hitting that left Barbados struggling to keep up. Coming in at number five, Henry launched a blistering assault on the Barbados bowlers, hammering 6 fours and 8 sixes on her way to an unbeaten 100 off just 49 balls. Her remarkable innings helped Jamaica set a challenging total of 149 for 5 from their allotted 20 overs after electing to bat first.

Despite Henry’s brilliance, Jamaica’s batting was otherwise modest, with captain and opener Rashada Williams being the only other batter to reach double figures, contributing 25 runs. Shamilia Connell was the standout bowler for Barbados, claiming 3 wickets for just 14 runs, but it was Henry’s fireworks that ultimately proved too much to handle.

Barbados Struggles in Run Chase

In their pursuit of 150 runs for victory, Barbados was kept under tight control by the Jamaican bowlers. The Bajans could only manage 87 for 4, well short of the required target. Naijanni Cumberbatch top-scored for Barbados with 35 runs, while Asabi Callender added 30.

Jamaica’s bowling attack was led by the impressive Neisha-Ann Waisome, who took 2 wickets for 10 runs. Celina Whyte and Chedean Nation also contributed with a wicket each, conceding just 10 runs, as the Jamaican bowlers suffocated the Barbados chase and ensured the match never got out of hand.

Windward Islands Triumph in the Other Game

In the second match of the day, the Windward Islands registered a comfortable 53-run victory over the Leeward Islands. Batting first, the Windwards posted a modest total of 129 for 7. Nerissa Crafton was the star with the bat, top-scoring with a well-made 52 runs, providing the backbone of their innings.

In response, the Leeward Islands struggled to find momentum and were bundled out for just 76. Afy Fletcher was the star with the ball for the Windwards, taking 4 wickets for 11 runs and wreaking havoc on the Leewards’ batting order. It was a clinical performance from the Windwards, who now look in good shape to challenge for the top spot in the competition.
