Stars Align for Literacy: Jamaica Celebrates Read Across Jamaica Day
In a vibrant display of support for literacy, the Bob and Rita Marley Foundations brought the magic of reading to life at the iconic Bob Marley Museum in Kingston on Read Across Jamaica Day, May 6, 2025.
The event drew in young minds from Boys Town Primary School, who were captivated by the newly installed “Get Up, Stand Up” exhibition.
During an engaging Q&A session with Sister Mitzie Williams, representative of the Bob Marley Foundation, the students shared their love for reading, citing reasons ranging from gaining knowledge to receiving prizes. The Foundations took to social media, sharing the excitement and inviting followers to share what books they read on the day.
Entertainer Armanii also participated in the national observance, bringing stories to life for students at Barracks Road Primary School. Several heartwarming pictures posted on social media showcased Armanii’s interaction with students and teachers, highlighting the impact of Read Across Jamaica Day.
Established in 2005 by the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, this island-wide initiative promotes literacy and a love for reading among students. This year’s theme, “Safeguarding the Future of Education: Adapting to the Changing Landscape,” underscores the importance of adapting education to meet the needs of a changing world.
